National Census Reveals Population Nearing 35 Million
Preliminary data from the 2026 census shows a population growth rate of 2.1%, with the urban population now exceeding 60%.

Preliminary results from the 2026 National Population and Housing Census indicate that the country population is approaching 35 million, reflecting an annual growth rate of 2.1%. For the first time in the nation history, the urban population has surpassed 60% of the total.
The Greater Accra region remains the most populous, while the northern regions recorded the fastest growth rates. The census also reveals a significant demographic shift, with the youth population (under 30) now comprising 58% of the total population.
